Gary Neville says Pogba’s £89m will look cheap if he secures title

Then Wayne Rooney ( above, right) joined Ferdinand as t he costliest teenager on the planet at £25.6m.

Pog b a ’ s return created enormous fuss, and even though he is suspended for United’s opener at Bournemough today, Neville believes he has the ability to make his fee look small.

He said: “Manchester United have always broken transfer records for players who are of a certain age, just below their peak. Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney spring to mind.

“But they are getting back to Jose has always won the league wherever he’s been. He’s arming himself already with a team that is not going to be able to compete in two or three years – I think they can now. He’s here to win the title for Manchester United. I think Jose sees him playing as a No.10 – at the moment. At the moment, it looks like he will play off Ibrahimovic. Physically, they will be good, but it will be up to the likes of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial to make those runs behind those two. Dele Alli – I love this kid. He’s brilliant. I want to see him kick on this season. Players get more used to you and you receive more attention.

Alli (right) has everything you want – he’s good physically, will score a goal, win a pass.

What interests me is the Dele Alli/Paul Pogba dynamic. Who will have more influence? Rashford is a threat, he can play wide, he can play through the middle. If you deliver for Jose, then you will be in that team – on merit, too.

For me, Rashford has to go and prove himself again to a new manager. He has the personality, presence, character. He’s exactly what Manchester United need. Ibrahimovic is fit, powerful and will intimidate opponents. He will also bring other people into play, as well as make chances and score goals.
