Killer beach fool flouts warnings

- By Karen Rockett

A MAN has been branded an idiot for ignoring warnings and letting a small kid play on an inflatable toy at Camber Sands yesterday.

An orange windsock was flying to tell people not to use the toys on the East Sussex beach where five men died on Wednesday.

Lifeguards will remain in place on the beach for the foreseeable future after this week’s tragedies. Two men became trapped in quicksand under the water and three friends swam out trying to rescue them but they all died. They were named as Londoners Kenugen Sath Saththiyanathan, 18, and KobikanthanK Saththiya Saththiyanathan 22, from E Er Erith, and Nitharsan Ravi, 22, of Plumstead; and I Inthushan Sris Sriskantharaja, 23, from Grays, Essex, and Gur Gurushanth Sritha Srithavarajah, 27, of Wellin Welling, Kent. More than 7,500 people signed an online petition calling for lifeguards at Camber Sands.

There were sunshine and showers yesterday and the Met Office predicted a “mixed bag” of weather for the rest of the Bank holiday.

A flash storm led to the Swindon Town v Bristol Rovers game being abandoned after an hour. But in East Sussex tens of thousands of sunbathers packed the beaches.

Today is likely to start cloudy and be followed by showers and sunny spells. Tomorrow scattered, light showers and sunny spells have been predicted.
