Joy as Casualty revives old days

Sad BB no match for Team GB

The mark of a good judge is what they say – not how pretty BRAVO to Casualty – and Charlie a dress they wear. Louis has always made me laugh. Sharon Fairhead – who both clocked Osborne is up 30 years last night with a outspoken pitch-perfect episode mixing but good gore, heartache, drama and fun. And as nostalgia. long as Nicole I’m glad they didn’t go down the live manages route once mooted for this special ep to stay – they didn’t need it. It was a sterling performance from all three, saluting our NHS heroes – who are, of course, what this show is all about.

Derek Thompson has played Charlie since 1986 – surviving shootings, an ambulance collision on his wedding day, a heart attack and a slew of dead colleagues and wives. His hair may have lost its bounce, but he hasn’t. Thompson delivered this heart-rending script as superbly as ever.

Kudos to the Beeb who’ve invested, nurtured and loved the show. The hospital may have been under threat last night, but this show certainly isn’t. Watching it really made me wish drama bosses gave everything the same respect. The Bill had the same heart and soul once and should have clocked up 33 years by now. And Pam St Clement’s gorgeous guest app-earance reminded us what an awful decision it was to kill her off as EastEnders’ Pat.

Last night proved that with good writing, love and a little faith, something 30 years old can look as fresh and exciting as the day it was born. Congratulations cast and crew to committing to something you love.
