WAYNE’S TOP TIPS ON FAME

- By Steve Bates

WAYNE ROONEY has been helping Jamie Vardy deal with the price of being famous.

While Vardy has only become recognisably famous in the last 18 months, England and Manchester United skipper Rooney has had to deal with being a celebrity since he first burst on to the scene as a 16-year-old at Everton.

And Vardy reckons there’s no one better equipped to pass on tips to cope with newfound fame – especially when you are with family.

Rooney and wife Colleen have three young boys – Kai, Klay and Kit – and Vardy admits his biggest problems with being a football star happen when he’s out with wife Rebekah and young family.

Asked if he’s learned from suddenly being a Premier League and England star Vardy said: “Yeah, I can’t leave my house. Put it this way I don’t get to have that many family days. I can’t really go to the shops without getting harassed.

“Obviously, it’s fans wanting photos and stuff, but if I’ve got my little girl with me and I’m holding her or she’s on my shoulders then I don’t really want to be putting her down to have a photo taken.

“I try to explain it in the nicest possible way that this is my only real quality time with the family.

“A lot of people understand, but some don’t and think we should be available 24/7. But that’s one of the things about the job we’re in.

“That’s where Wayne has helped,” says Vardy. “We’ve had a few chats. He was thrown in at the deep end when he was 16 so to have that experience has helped me.

“It’s mad. I’m still the same person. I’ve not changed.

“Now I have to find other little ways to enjoy the family, but when you’ve got training the next day there’s not really that many private places you can go to.

“You try to do the best you can but you want to give kids as normal a life as possible.”
