Illegal immigrant chef poses with Theresa May Leftovers leaving a nasty aftertaste

- By Patrick Hill

RESTAURANT diners have been told to clear their plates – or be slapped with a £2 charge for leaving food.

Bosses at Sirkars restaurant have hit £12.99 all-you-can-eat buffet customers with the fee to stop them wasting food.

And diners are also told they must be finished within an hour and a half.

The restaurant said: “We didn’t have this policy when we opened and we were concerned about the mountains of wasted food we saw. It’s very common for buffets to have a policy about food waste.”

The rule at the Middlesbrough restaurant, that serves Asian, Italian and English food, has had a mixed reaction.

One diner complained on website TripAdvisor after being fined for leaving A CHEF tried to curry favour with immigration officials by sending a photo of him with Theresa May.

Mohammed Uddin, 39, who was an illegal immigrant, hoped the snap featuring the Prime Minister would help him stay in Britain.

But his plan backfired when a civil servant sent a letter blasting his cheek.

Mohammed cosied up to Mrs May, a renowned curry lover, when she was guest of honour at an event at the Haweli Twyford Restaurant in Reading, Berks, in 2010.

At the time she was Home Secretary and responsible for UK borders.

She was unaware that Mohammed was an illegal immigrant from food that was “too spicy”. But another, Vicky Beeston, said: “If people weren’t so greedy charges wouldn’t be an issue.”

And diner Andrew Knight wrote: “Why does everyone want something for nothing? It’s a bargain and the food is good.”

The British Hospitality Association, which represents 40,000 eateries, backed the bid to reduce food waste.
