Mel C warning to sexy girl band: Little Mix have too much SPICE

- By Emma Pryer, TV Editor

SPICE Girl Mel C has hit out at Little Mix – saying the girl band are now too “provocative”.

Contrasting the raunchy act formed on The X Factor in 2011 with her own 1990s hitmakers, she said: “I love Little Mix. I loved them from The X Factor. I just thought they were so different.

“But they are getting more provocative. To me, they were kind of the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen.

“They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren’t sexy and it’s got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, ‘Stay you’.

I think it’s such a shame. We live in a narcissistic age – it’s 100 per cent worse than when I was in the Spice Girls.

“It was a more innocent time, although we were criticised for wearing crop tops.”

Melanie, Sporty Spice in her Spice Girls days, now has a successful 18-year solo career behind her and was speaking ahead of the release of her new album Version Of Me this Friday. She told how becoming a parent with former partner Thomas Starr had made her feel “more settled.”

Mel explained: “It gave me roots. I left home at 16 so I never really had a home until I had a child.”

She also spoke of her contentment with current boyfriend Joe Marshall.

She said: “He has given me confidence. He challenges me but respects me and loves me. I feel someone’s got my back.” But she revealed they had no plans to marry. “I’ve never wanted to get married,” she said.

Mel was also quick to deny rumours that the title track on Version Of Me relates to a feud with former Spice Girls bandmate Mel B.

She and Victoria Beckham declined to join in a new reunion tour but she said: “I love Melanie. My relationships with some of the girls are difficult at times but I’ll never not love them.”
