Tigers are too tame for Phelan

-

HULL boss Mike Phelan has told his players to grow up after they were stuffed 6-1 by BOURNEMOUTH in his first game since becoming permanent boss.

Phelan, who has been Tigers caretaker manager since August, finally agreed a permanent contract last week – but the celebrations were short-lived.

He said: “I feel very embarrassed. I’ve got a team here who show what they can do when they want to. We’ve got to grow up.”

Bournemouth are up to ninth after their record victory in the Premier League.

Boss Eddie Howe said: “We were clinical in front of goal, which was very pleasing.”

Mark Hughes paid tribute to Joe Allen after the midfielder scored both goals which gave STOKE a 2-0 win over Sunderland, their first of the season. “I’m delighted with what he is producing. He has done exceptionally well,” Hughes said.

SUNDERLAND stay rooted to the bottom of the table with boss David Moyes admitting: “We are looking for a win to give us a lift, a bit of momentum.”

TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino was left sweating on the fitness of Toby Alderweireld who was carried off on a stretcher in the 1-1 draw at WEST BROM.

WEST HAM captain Mark Noble hailed the 1-0 win at CRYSTAL PALACE as “massive”.

Manuel Lanzini grabbed the winner, turning in a cross from Aaron Cresswell, who was later sent off.

Noble said: “I’ve been the first one to criticise our performances, including my own. We showed tonight that we haven’t given up.”
