X FACTOR star Honey G would welcome legalisation of cannabis in Britain – and claims it is liberating.

Her comments came a day after the rapper boasted of snorting class A cocaine, popping ecstasy pills and becoming hooked on weed before joining the show.

Honey, aka Anna Georgette Gilford, said: “I don’t object to people smoking weed. It is very liberating. People use it for medicinal purposes. I don’t object to it being legalised.”

In Britain cannabis is a Class B drug, with a penalty of up to five years for those in possession.

The shock bookies’ favourite has said she became hooked on cannabis aged 14 and smoked it regularly at Salford University.

But she told us: “I never went into rehab but I had friends who did. Weed has never had an effect on my mental health but it can be a terrible depressant.

“I eventually stopped when I moved back to London.”

Honey G, who runs an HR firm, insisted she no longer smokes, with only occasional rare lapses.

“When I do, it’s very, very occasionally,” she said. “I don’t bring any drugs into my apartment ever.

“If I’ve been smoking weed I might feel dirty, smelly and thinking I can smell it on my clothes. It’s disgusting.”

She opened up about drugs ahead of last night’s performance of 1977 Bee Gees hit Stayin’ Alive.

Some fans called for Honey G to be axed – despite show bosses insisting she hasn’t taken any drugs since joining the show.
