Jason: I’m teaching my kids about drugs
JASON Donovan says he hopes his own battle with drugs will teach his kids not to make the same mistakes he did. The singer and a actor, 48, had a serious cocaine habit in his late 20 20s and early 30s that gave him depression and made him suffer fits. Talking abo about how he wants children Jemma, 16, Zac,Z 15, and Molly, five, to say no to drugs, he said: “My kids are very aware of w what I’ve done in my life, or rather wha what I shouldn’t have done. “You c can only lead by example. I educate mym children to hopefully make the right choices. If they don’t, I will support them along the way. “I“I hopeh what they’ve seen throughthroug me, they can learn to take the good bits and hopefully look back at the bad bits.bits No life is perfect.” AussieA Jason started smoking cannabis in the 1990s and was snorting 30 lines of cocaine a day by the time he toured in musical Joseph. He said at the time:tim “I held it togethergeth professionally but afte after the show I had my own Technicolor Dreamcoat, thank you very much.” Jason’s addiction got so bad that in 1995 he had to be pulled out of Kate Moss’s 21st birthday party at the Viper Room in LA because he was in such a state. But after meeting his wife, Angela Malloch, while touring with the Rocky Horror show in 1998, he managed to get clean. Now, he admits the 80s Rewind festivals he plays at are “boring” as most of the other acts have come through addiction themselves. He still enjoys wine and champagne but nothing harder, adding: “I still love a drink. If I’m working in the week I try to avoid it, but it’s a tough one to try and avoid as having a drink after a day’s work is a really nice thing to do. “But I love on a Sunday to have a glass of champagne. You’ve got to live.” Jason shot to fame as Scott Robinson in Neighbours alongside Kylie Minogue, 48. Some 20million people watched their characters marry in 1987 and they also dated in real life – but Kylie ditched him fo for INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.
