I told FA about perv 30 yrs ago

- From Dan Warburton in Arrecife, Lanzarote

A RETIRED player warned the FA he had been attacked by paedophile scout Eddie Heath more than 30 years ago.

Ex-Charlton Athletic youth team goalie Russell Davy, now 50, says he was subjected to months of abuse by twisted Heath, a talent spotter, when he was 15.

And he claims that when his life fell apart he wrote a two-page letter to the Football Association to document his nightmare. In the letter – addressed only to “whom it may concern” – Russell exposed the attacks he had suffered at Heath’s hands and warned them to act before other victims were targeted.

Speaking from his home on Lanzarote, father-of-two Russell said: “I never got a reply back. So they’ve got a letter on their system somewhere saying how it affected my life, naming Eddie Heath as the person who had done this to me and naming Charlton.”

Floor-layer Russell, originally from Croydon, South London, was spotted by scouts as he played for Surrey Schools and was signed by Charlton Athletic.

Russell says Heath would pick him up in a minibus at his home. As they made the 12-mile trip to Charlton’s training ground, Russell says the coach would touch his leg and make advances. And he later cornered Russell in the shower after training sessions where he repeatedly attacked him.

Russell said: “I’ve got on with my life but this has just brought everything back. It’s horrendous.”

Last night the FA refused to comment on Russell’s case but said: “We are working closely with the police investigation and must ensure we do not jeopardise this.”
