DRONE FLIES ON THE WING Gadget delivers DVD player to prison
For once the only missiles in Aleppo are being launched in fun after snow arrived in the city.
And it brought smiles to the worn faces of both children and adults, many of them homeless and holed up in tents in surrounding countryside.
As the rebels leave, they now face a freezing winter. But this will remain a rare happy memory. A DRONE was used to deliver weapons and a DVD player “Christmas present” to lags at a jail.
The four-engined gadget was seen hovering over a cell window at category B Liverpool prison.
Officers searched a two-man cell on the fifth floor of G wing and found hidden contraband, including the DVD player.
A source said: “The feeling is it was a Christmas present. It’s probably the most bizarre prison delivery by drone ever. Perhaps the inmate wanted to watch a film on Christmas Day.”
Other items recovered were phones, a screwdriver and weapons, believed to include knives.
The drone was spotted at 2.45pm on December 14.
Prison Officer Association assistant secretary Glyn Travis said: “Inmates can order anything by mobile phone – drugs, mobiles or, in this case, a DVD player. We need more staff to be able to combat this increased threat.”
Earlier the same day, a crashed drone was found outside B wing of the Victorian jail.
A prison service spokesperson said: “HMP Liverpool received reports of a drone dropping contraband into the prison. Officers recovered a number of items.”
Order had been restored yesterday at Swaleside Prison, Kent, after a riot on Thursday night in which 60 rampaging inmates caused serious damage.
Fires were started and extinguishers set off. Images emerged of lags with their faces covered and armed with pieces of wood.
