HOL OF A RISK Brits ignore Tunisia terror threat to get £17-a-night deals

- By Stephen Hayward

CONSUMER CORRESPONDENT THOUSANDS of Brits are still heading to terror hotspot Tunisia to grab hotel deals at just £17 a night.

Leading websites are offering stays near the Sousse spot where 30 Britons were massacred by an Islamic State extremist in 2015.

Foreign Office advice is not to travel to the North African country amid fears jihadists could again target foreign visitors.

Yet on Trivago we found a double room at the four star Hannibal Palace – a 10-minute drive from where Tunisian gunman Seifeddine Rezgui killed 38 tourists – available for £ 17 a night. Just 20 minutes down the beach, half-board accommodation at four-star Hotel Marahaba Beach was up at £ 25 a night on Lastminute.com. And a double room with breakfast at the fourstar Riadh Palms was £28 a night on Expedia, although yesterday all Tunisia trips had been removed from the firm’s site.

Figures show 23,428 Brits went to Tunisia last year – compared with 400,000 in 2014. But despite harrowing details of the Sousse attack at an inquest last week, websites are failing to carry the Foreign Office’s “do not travel” warning.

Holidaytravelwatch.com expert Frank Brehany said: “Serious questions must be asked if companies promote sun- soaked beaches and azure seas over the reality or history of risk.”

The Association of British Travel Agents says members should inform clients of advice from the Foreign Office.

Lastminute and Trivago did not comment.
