Trump is a real test of our values

-

Prime Ministers say they’ll never talk to terrorists and then they do. But it brought relative peace to Northern Ireland.

My own grandfather narrowly escaped being killed by Zionist group Irgun, which carried out 60 terror attacks in what is now Israel, including the 1946 bombing of Britain’s HQ in Jerusalem’s King David Hotel, killing 91 people.

Menachem Begin led Irgun. He became Israeli PM and Margaret Thatcher shook his hand, just as the Queen shook the gun hand of ex-IRA leader Martin McGuinness.

It comes down to whether British interests trump British values. That vile sleazebag now sitting in the White House doesn’t represent our values but a state visit might serve our interests.

This week the High Court in London will consider the legality of £3.3billion of British arms sales to Saudi Arabia since it began bombing Yemen in March 2015. Up to 10,000 civilians have been killed. Unicef says 2.2 million kids are malnourished, with 462,000 of them starving.

British should mean thousands of protesters taking to the streets to demonstrate against this unspeakable little war.

If British triumph – we’ll continue supplying Saudi with the wherewithal to wage it. I ONCE arbitrated in a dispute between former Home Secretary David Blunkett and left-wing firebrand Derek Hatton.

At issue was whether Degsie had kicked David’s guide dog.

He hadn’t, though during a heated argument he might have inadvertantly stepped on her paw. The two politicians never got on. Jeremy Corbyn is much more thee ex-Militant Trot’s cup of tea. At least he was. That was before the Labour leader sided with h TheresaThere May over the triggering of ArticleArtic 50. Degsie writes: “This does make me have serious doubts about him.” It justj shows what a mess the LabourLabou Party is in when even the left of it is squabbling.
