It’s all too frightening... I’m tired and strung out

Murder author’s chilling blogs as fiance poisoned her

- By Alan Selby and Nicola Fifield

MURDERED writer Helen Bailey complained of being “tired and strung out” as evil fiance Ian Stewart slowly drugged her.

Six weeks before her killing, the children’s author wrote on her blog: “Things have been difficult here since just after Christmas.

“It continues to be an anxious and challenging time.

“In my mind, it’s all too frightening… I apologise right now that this post is vague, though not deliberately so, but only because I’m too tired and strung out.” All the while Stewart, 56 – jailed for 34 years last week – was secretly lacing her food with sleeping drug Zopiclone. A friend of Helen said the post on the Planet Grief blog – set up to help other widows after the 2011 drowning of her husband – sounded alarm bells when she vanished last April. The pal, who does not want to be named, said: “It’s very telling about her state of mind. She was clearly unsettled.” The jury at Stewart’s trial was told Helen, 52, had Googled “Why do I keep falling asleep” as the pills took effect. It allowed him to suffocate her before tossing her body into a cesspit at her home in Royston, Herts, in a plot to inherit her fortune. As he planned to disguise the Electra Brown writer’s disappearance as a kidnap, she was planning their wedding – but doubts about marrying the widower she met on Facebook may have already been creeping into her drug hazed mind.

Writing online two months before she died, Helen said: “New love doesn’t erase old loss and cure grief, but brings with it complicated emotions and painful reminders.” Police are now investigating the seizure death of Stewart’s wife Diane in 2010.
