Cashing in: It’s okay for some

At best Wayne Shaw was naive, at worst he was stupid. But while the roly-poly back-up goalie deserved censure for knowingly influencing a betting market with his pie-eating antics, he didn’t need to lose his job at Sutton – that was a punishment too far!

Drogba al also scored the winning goal in the 2012 FAF Cup Final, a 2-1 victory over Liverpo Liverpool.

And, as m memorably as any of those goals, he got the dramatic late equaliser (above) and s scored the winning penalty in the 2012 ChampionsC League shoot-out to win the competition everyone at Stamford B Bridge coveted so much.

These arear the levels to which Costa must aspireaspir and while, at 28, it will take a HerculeanHe effort to match Drogba th there is no reason why he shouldn’t try try.

The goalsgoal Costa scored against Middlesbrough,Middlesbrou West Brom and Crystal Palace were certainly important and without themthe Chelsea would be six points worse off in the league.

Each time it was as if he’d thought, ‘Right, let’s stop f****** about, let’s get this gamegam won and get home’. Or whateverwhatev the translation is. Drogba ne never did win the Professional Footballers Association or Football Writers AssociationAsso player of the year award and CostaC is a big shout for at least one of those this season.

But Drogba did win every collective trophy on offer at club level and that is something to which Costa must now aspire if he is to become a true legend. TO much fanfare, Ben Stokes and Tymal Mills have pocketed the Indian rupee to the tune of £1.7million and £1.4m for stints in the Indian Premier League.

To much derision, Mark Clattenburg has taken the Saudi riyal to the tune of £500,000 for a stint as their head of referees.

Like Stokes and Mills, Clattenburg (right) is just trying to make as much cash as he can from the opportunities available to him, yet for some reason he gets battered for it.

There aren’t half a lot of double standards at play these days.
