Passion Desire Hunger

Yaya: Pep wants it his way and makes sure he gets it

- By Steve Bates

YAYA TOURE says no one is safe from Pep Guardiola if they do not follow his exact orders – not even Sergio Aguero.

The uber-intense Spanish super-coach could be seen on the touchline manically berating his Argentine goal hero Aguero during Manchester City’s dramatic 5-3 Champions League win over Monaco in midweek – and even came on the pitch at one stage to make a point.

Aguero is the Etihad star most under threat this summer with his camp uncertain if he has any long-term future at all while Guardiola is in charge.

Toure, offloaded by Guardiola to City from Barcelona in 2010, knows better than anyone what can happen once the Spaniard takes a view on what a player should offer him.

But Yaya insists it is only because Guardiola wants t he best and always demands more.

“The manager is a guy with passion,” said Toure.

“I’ve known him for a long time and when he acts like that he is frustrated. We saw it against Monaco how he reacts to a mistake.

“It is about pushing the team. You saw the team with passion, desire and hunger. We all watched ‘La La Land’ the movie the other day – it had things like that. I think it is good.”

Aguero is having to run hard and defend from the front like never before to comply with Guardiola’s high- energy pressing game. And noo one is spared when thehe City chief goes ballistic listic if his high standards dards are not met.

“I am used to it,” added Toure. e.

“In trainingg he is in a more e intense mood d than us.

“He shows he wants more. Hee says he knows we can do more.”

Toure’s returnurn to the first team m after spending the early part of the season eason frozen out has sparked talk of f an extended stay at the club. Toure, re, who faces es Huddersfield at the Etihad in a FA CupCu fifth round replay on Wedn Wednesday, is out of contract in the summer but believ believes he could play on for an another five years. He s aid: “It’s possible now now. With the science an and the g u y s wh whoo are learning, playe players can go on much lon longer. “You see ZlatanZ Ibrahimovic o or some of the player players, guys like Ryan Giggs, those guys ar are a big example. “Of course,co young lad lads like Leroy Sane (left)( l eft) and Rahe Raheem Ster Sterling lol ook at y you and say you are ‘uncle’ and sometimes when I pass to them they say ‘ah, uncle is on the phone’ – and that’s good.

“I don’t know if I will be here at City next season.

“I don’t think about it. I’m just about enjoying having my team-mates around.

Positive

“When you see my career, it is one, two, three years maximum (at any one club), so it is a long time here.

“What the fans give to me, I want to give it back, so I will do all I can until the last minute and if I am done, I am done.

“My future here depends on the board – I don’t have anything to say. I just try to play positive and win trophies for the fans.”
