LEICESTER v LIVERPOOL PLAY ME IN JAMIE FILM

- By Steve Bates

and the fact that even if Leicester do stay up and are mid-table for the next five or six seasons, there will be a bitter taste in the mouth for a long time to come.

Because Ranieri is not the conniving sort, yet he has massively been connived against.

With hindsight, I wish he’d sodded off at the end of last season and said to the new bloke: “Beat that!”

Instead he was loyal to Leicester – and there was no loyalty in return. SIMON MIGNOLET has revealed he would be happy to play the fall guy in Jamie Vardy’s Hollywood movie.

Mignolet’s trip to the King Power Stadium tomorrow night will have a backdrop dominated by Claudio Ranieri’s shock sacking.

But for Liverpool’s Belgian keeper it will mean only one thing – memories of Vardy’s wonder goal that triggered the idea to tell the Leicester striker’s story on the big screen.

Being on the receiving end of Vardy’s spectacular long-range strike a year ago wasn’t the Liverpool keeper’s finest moment. But Mignolet has claimed he’ll willing play himself in the movie when the producers want to shoot the Vardy goal.

“They can still call me if they want to. I would be available,” he laughs. “It’s a great story, it shows how anything can happen in football, how big the sport is, and that’s why everybody loves it.

“It’s been a while since that goal happened and it’s never nice to see it back. I always analyse my performance after a game, it doesn’t make any difference whether it’s a good goal or a bad goal, you always look back to see what you could have done better.

“In that game actually I made a few saves, especially at the beginning, but when you see the goal again of course you wonder what you could have done better to prevent it happening.

“There were a few things I could have changed, like my starting position, but you have to see the bigger picture as well. I mean, how many times is he going to do that again? “Sometimes you have to give credit to the striker and as a football fan you like to see good goals scored and Leicester had a really good season last year. “They deserved to win the title and in doing that they scored a lot of great goals. That was one people remember but it just shows his quality that he can do that as well. “It’s not just tap-ins. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time. He manages to score some nice goals and he got an important one against Sevilla in the Champions League. “He’s a good striker, he was top scorer for a reason last season. I’m sure he will keep going.” Mignolet (left) knows what it’s like to fall from grace after being dropped by Jurgen Klopp earlier this season. Now he’s back in the side having bounced back from the axe. He added: “This season has been a test of character, yeah. The Premier League is watched around the world and the eye is on you. Therefore, you need broad shoulders and a good chin to keep your head up. “That’s the only thing. In the end, it’s only about yourself, and you have to look into the mirror and see what you can do best, and what you are trying to do on a daily basis. That’s what I try to do.”
