This week: Jaeger customers
HIGH Street retailer Jaeger has gone into administration. Administrators have stepped in to run the clothing company with the aim of saving it and selling it to a third party – or putting it into liquidation and closing it down. In any event its customers are now at risk. Here’s what you need to know: RETURNING FAULTY ITEMS Administrators often refuse to refund or exchange faulty items. At present Jaeger’s administrators are not taking this approach. However, this could change any day and is highly likely to, so if you have bought anything faulty from Jaeger, return it immediately. RETURNING NON-FAULTY ITEMS Like most retailers, Jaeger has a goodwill returns policy for unwanted goods. But this is likely to be scrapped by administrators soon. GIFT VOUCHERS When a retailer goes into administration one of the first casualties is usually gift vouchers, as the administrator is legally entitled to refuse to accept them. At present administrators for Jaeger say they will continue to honour them – but this is expected to be short-lived. OTHER REMEDIES If administrators move the goalposts on gift vouchers or returns, or if Jaeger goes into liquidation, you may have another remedy. If you paid by debit card, tell your bank you want to claim under the “chargeback” scheme. If you paid by credit card for a purchase over £100, make a section 75 claim with the card provider.
