GOOD AS IT GETS, BAGGIES’

- By Neil Moxley

TONY PULIS has told West Brom fans to enjoy themselves this season – because this is as good as it’s going to get.

The Baggies chief issued the message ahead of a summer in which he predicts it will be impossible to maintain any further upward momentum.

Pulis (above) is expecting a finish in the top 10 – but has issued a warning to supporters expecting any additional inroads being made.

Predicting a huge summer transfer spend by today’s opponents Liverpool – plus the rest of the top six and Everton – the Welshman told fans of the Black Country club to be realistic.

He said: “We are in an unbelievable position. To be eighth in the Premier League is absolutely fantastic.

“Whether we finish in the top 10 or not, where we are now is at the top of our group. We can’t do any better than this. We can’t.

“If people think we can do better, year after year after year, then let’s get a billionaire in so I can spend the money.

“The top six will spend massively this summer. Everton will too.

“We have to improve it next year. We have to.

“We need to get players in to help us step up a level. This group here have done fantastically well – but it is a small group.

“What I have to do is make sure everyone at the club understands that we are moving forward. We are doing it step by step.

“Money is important. You cannot try and hide the fact you have to compete financially.

“We have had a good season. You’ve seen progress on and off the pitch.

“Next year, the stadium is going to be improved, there’s money being spent on the training ground – everything is geared to step up a level.

“We are in still in a position where we can go six or seven games unbeaten. Or we can lose those games.

“We have to try and improve. We need to get the players in to help us step up a level.”

Asked why Leicester City were able to buck the trend last term, Pulis answered: “Fair point – they had an unbelievable season. But I think they spent a fortune.

“Look, when was it that Nottingham Forest won the title – 1979-80, wasn’t it?

“Well, I’ll have a decent bet with you something like that doesn’t happen again.

“It was more of an exception than the rule.”
