Maur credit for fantastic boss, demands Kane

- By Steve Stammers

HARRY KANE has done as much as any Spurs player to put them in with a shout of the title.

But the 26-goal hitman knows it’s manager Mauricio Pochettino who should get the lion’s share of the plaudits.

Ahead of today’s north London derby, Kane spoke of the debt both he and the club owe their Argentinian manager.

The striker said: “Since the gaffer came here, he has changed everything. He has been fantastic. You see the belief in the squad, you see the way we play. Sometimes we win 4-0 and play fantastically.

“Then there are games when we battle, work hard to keep a clean sheet, dig deep and get a 1-0.”

The perfect illustration was at Crystal Palace on Wednesday with a narrow victory secured by a Christian Eriksen strike.

Steel

Spurs are certain to finish above Arsenal with a victory at White Hart Lane today, and Kane conceded: “Of course, for the fans it would be a great moment. That would be fantastic.

“But we have got bigger things to look forward to. We just have to try to win the game and keep the pressure on as much as we can.”

Spurs start today four points behind Chelsea who kick off two hours earlier against Everton at Goodison Park.

While Tottenham are chasing the Premier League title, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has welcomed the return of his side’s fighting spirit.

Wenger conceded that his men were left reeling by the heavy defeats to Bayern Munich and Chelsea in February.

He admitted: “It is true that for a while we were a bit like a boxer who had been put on the floor twice. We lost a little bit and people interpreted that as the players not caring. No.

“Maybe it is because they care very much that they were like that – shocked. We were shocked.

“The turning point is that you have to revolt and say: ‘Come on – that cannot go on’.

“The players care. The players have a good mentality. I love the attitude of this team.”

The rediscovered streak of determination has also been acknowledged by the fans. Rather than the vicious, anti-Wenger sentiment, there is more solid support after three successive wins.

“I feel that, yes,” said Wenger. “There is a good atmosphere.”
