Barking tickets

THREE buses picking up pupils at a primary school in Leek, Staffs, got £ 35 parking tickets “for being a danger to children”. DIY SOS host Nick Knowles and estranged wife Jessica are following film star Gwyneth Paltrow’s lead by pursuing an amicable split.

Nick, 54, spent May Bank Holiday with Jessica, 28, and their son Eddie, two, at pal Lord Bathurst’s country estate.

Gwyneth, 44, similarly broke up with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, 40, the father of her two small childen, by staying best friends and “consciously uncoupling”.

After the trip with Nick to the Bathurst estate, Jessica said: “When Gwyneth and Chris announced that they were consciously uncoupling, I had no idea what they meant.

“It’s a posh way of saying you’re getting a divorce.

“But I like the concept behind it – to remain as amicable and considerate as possible during your separation and to always prioritise your children.”

Jessica has beaten cervical cancer, which was diagnosed last year after her split from Nick, who she married in September 2012.

She said: “Although it’s not always possible to stay on friendly terms, I am lucky that Nick and I have been able to.

“It makes life a lot simpler when you are able to let go of anger and animosity and, instead of focusing on what is lacking in your life, celebrating what you have.

“Eddie is top of my list followed hopefully by good health.”

She has said she owes her life to Nick, who has three other children from earlier relationships.

Her cancer was diagnosed only after he insisted she seek medical help when she felt very ill.

That same year, 2016, Jessica faced even more anguish after it was revealed that while they were apart Nick had a fling with Gemma Oaten, 32, who played Emmerdale’s Rachel Breckle.

But by last November, Jessica said that she and Nick were “dating” again.

Yet despite encouragement from celebrity pals, she is now insisting: “We AREN’T getting back together.”

Nick’s first marriage ended in the late 1990s. He then lived with motorsport TV presenter Suzi Perry from 2000 to 2003.
