Anguish of relatives after 100ft balcony What happened As hen do girl’s body is flown home, her family are still desperately searching for the truth

- From Alan Selby in Benidorm

THE newlywed husband and family of Kirsty Maxwell are waiting in anguish to know how she fell to her death on a hen do.

Kirsty, 27, toppled from the 10th floor of her apartment block in party town Benidorm, on Spain’s Costa Blanca.

And yesterday it was revealed that one of the allegedly intoxicated men in the room from which she fell 100ft has reportedly said in court papers that she jumped.

It has also been alleged that she may have plunged while trying to flee because she allegedly felt intimidated.

So eight days on from the tragedy, police are still unable to say why she died, deepening the heartbreak of Adam, her husband of seven months, and family back in Livingston, West Lothian.

They have hired a lawyer in Spain to independently probe the horror and a source close to the investigation said: “They expect no stone to be left unturned in working out how she came to die.”

Kirsty’s body was last night believed to have been flown home after an online JustGiving appeal topped £30,000.

Last week the Sunday People visited the tragedy scene at Apartamentos Payma where Kirsty died after partying until 4am last Saturday with 30 other tipsy hens in the lively Little England bar area.

Her pals remain baffled over why after arriving back at her ninth floor apartment, she walked up a flight of stairs and knocked on the door of the one above.

Screamed

She was not wearing shoes as she entered room 10e, suggesting she got the wrong apartment as she tried to drop in on a hen with friends on the floor above her. She found herself facing five men allegedly high on drink or cocaine. They became the last people to see her alive.

Detectives have seized CCTV but have not established any foul play.

They are also investigating claims that she may have been sleepwalking.

A Benidorm Criminal Court spokesman said: “There are no current indications of the participation of other people.”

Yesterday it was revealed that court papers reportedly show that one of the men in room 10e, Joseph Graham, 32, from Nottingham, insists she jumped.

In a lengthy police interview, Amazon online shopping executive Mr Graham said he let Kirsty into the room.

Also in the room were cage fighter and British kickboxing champion Ricky Gammon, 31, Anthony Holehouse, 34, heating engineer Callum Northridge, 27, and Daniel Bailey, 32.

Mr Graham has left Spain without charge after two days of police interrogation and a court appearance.

He ended up in 10e after a pal bought a girl back to his room, 10a.

He became part of the quintet in the room being dubbed the Benidorm Five. Mr Graham said that Kirsty was clothed but barefoot as she walked into the room without saying a word. She headed straight for the bathroom before touching the window “as if she wanted to open it”, he said. He added: “She walked past me as I stood opposite the bathroom and I showed her where the door was but she went the other way into the apartment.apartm She looked confused, as if she was drunk or she was under the effects of drugs.

“Next to the door there was another room with a small window and through that I saw a silhouette near the balcony.

“I went to see where she was and at the same time heard a bang.

“I leaned out over the balcony and saw she had gone over.

“I didn’t hear her say or shout anything. Everything happened very quickly, in around 30 seconds.” Mr Graham said he screamed to his mates: “She’s jumped!” He insisted that Kirsty was not pushed off the balcony.

He added he and his friends had done nothing to intimidate or to scare her.

But Mr Graham’s account leaves questions tormenting Kirsty’s dream man Adam, who she married last summer in an idyllic wedding on Cyprus.

The pair stayed at Ayia Napa’s Olympic Lagoon before honeymooning in Las Vegas, then returning to Livingston.

At the start of April they travelled to Amsterdam with friends and planned a dream trip to Florida this September.

Adam has paid tribute to Kirsty as his “best friend” and added: “I will never stop missing her.”

He said: “The amount of support shown is a true testament to Kirsty’s character and how many people’s lives she touched.

“I know anyone that has come into contact with Kirsty over the years would struggle not to love and adore her.”

Carolynn Simpson, who was with Kirsty on the hen do, started the JustGiving fundraising page as friends rallied round. The apartment block is on Calle Gerona,
