NEW HEALTH Liz Dawn: I’m too ill to fly to grandson’s wedding

CORONATION Street legend Liz Dawn has been hit by a new health scare and faces a major operation next week.

The Vera Duckworth star, who suffers from emphysema, is so poorly that doctors stopped her flying to her grandson’s wedding Italy.

Liz was devastated to miss Friday’s event, when Thomas Borso, 29, married Alice Coughlin, 27, the niece of Corrie’s Debbie Rush, who plays Anna Windass.

But she told the Sunday People the journey to the ceremony in the Alpine town of Bassano del Grappa was too risky.

Instead the 77-year-old, is preparing to go under the knife for an op linked to an ongoing heart condition which, she hopes, will help transform her life.

In an exclusive interview from her Manchester home, Liz said: “At the moment I’ve got no energy but once the operation is done I will be looking forward to being as back to my normal self and getting my energy back.

“I’m in very good hands and want to thank everyone at the hospital.

“Naturally I am very disappoint­ed not to be there with them. They make such a lovely couple.

“It’s every grandmothe­r’s dream and Bassano is such a lovely setting.

“But to get there was just too difficult, it would have meant a flight to Venice,
