DON’T FORGET MY £2MILLION

EVANS QUIDS IN WITH TOOTHBRUSH REBOOT

- By Janine Ya Yaqoob ACTING TV E EDITOR

CHRIS Evans wants to make a £2million comeback by fronting a reboot of his 1990s hit Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush. The Radio 2 host, 51, wants to do a 10-programme deal with Channel 4 or 5 for around £200k per episode, insiders say. It would be his first TV job since quitting BBC1’s Top Gear amid dismal ratings. A source said: “Chris is keen to put Top Gear behind him and this is the perfect way to do it. He can’t wait to get back on TV and prove all the doubters wrong. “The format suits him down to a tee – a light, bright comedy entertainment show. There are no doubts he’ll be great.” Former TFI Friday host Evans wrote and fronted the show back in 1994 and it ran for two series. The new version could air as soon as October 27 until New Year’s Eve – and insiders say producers are ready to give away the most money ever on a UK TV show.

Passport

The source added: “TFI was the first show to give away £1million. Bosses want to go one better. Enquiries have even been made to book Beyonce. It shows their intent to make it the biggest Friday night show on TV.” Producers want the new version to be as similar as possible to the original - Evans’ first big venture after The Big Breakfast. Back then, studio audience members had to bring their passport and pack a bag in case they won an exotic holiday. Evans ended each show with a song and attracted star guests such as Barry White, Lulu and Tony Hadley. The celebrity would take part in the superfan quiz to see if they knew more trivia about themselves than a huge fan. After the show ended, Evans hosted the Radio 1 breakfast show and returned to Channel 4 for TFI Friday. Evans left Top Gear last July after it recorded the lowest audience since it was revived by Jeremy Clarkson in 2002. The humiliation came amid a police probe - eventually dropped - into claims he sexually assaulted an ex-colleague. A source said: “Chris’s team want to get the gang back together.”
