No need for Labour if Theresa opens purse

SINN Fein’s Gerry Adams tweets: When you’re dead you don’t know you’re dead. The pain is felt by others. Same thing when you’re stupid.” Tories could KO Corbyn with splurge

-

HOW’S this for wonky thinking? It’s the Tory master plan to make the Labour Party redundant. And it goes like this.

Britain runs on Buggins’s turn with the two main parties swapping power every few years.

The Tories put the country on a sound economic footing then Labour gets i n and blows loadsamoney on the NHS, schools and alleviating poverty.

All worthy causes, but the country ends up in financial do-do.

So voters bring back the Tories to rescue the economy – and once they’ve done that the cycle begins all over again.

Vulnerable

Now, if you follow this line of thought, Theresa May has come up with a plan as cunning as any Baldrick devised for Blackadder.

Spend, spend, spend until the cash runs out. That way there’s no need for Labour because Tories trashed the economy for them.

And Mrs May can stay in No10 for ever.

I think the Tory MP who told me this was joking. But the PM is so vulnerable that her Cabinet are like highwaymen ordering her to stand and deliver.

Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Jeremy Hunt want £1.4billion to lift the public sector pay cap. Education Secretary Justine Greening demands £1.2billion for schools.

And 37 Tory MPs say Waspi women in their 60s must have their stolen state pensions returned.

That’ll cost £ 1.5billion. Hell, even student tuition fees may go.

Bring it on. We only live once and we don’t want to spend our lifetimes in austerity. Even though it’ll mean higher taxes and more borrowing.

As Mrs May can’t introduce any controversial legislation, the Tories can spend the next five years putting right what they got wrong in the previous seven.

It’s not as if they’ve got anything better to do. One bill before Parliament was cut in half to make it two bills, which take twice as long to debate. It keeps ’em busy.

Because what no one wants is another election – not the Tories, the Lib Dems, SNP or DUP. Not even Labour.

That would lumber Jeremy Corbyn with Brexit.

And it will be much easier to clear up the mess the Tories make of it than avoid the mess he might make himself.
