Klopp wants US star to replace Phil

-

£90million after seeing their opening bid of £80m rejected.

Klopp will fight to persuade his influential playmaker to stay, but if he does lose him then 18-year-old United States international Pulisic is the man he wants.

The midfielder, capped 16 times, has already dismissed speculation linking him to Bayern Munich this summer.

But Klopp will test the resolve of Pulisic to stay in Germany and his old club’s resolve to keep him.

Pulisic, who spent a year in England when he was seven, and holds both Croatian and American passports, is considered a huge prospect on the continent.

And Klopp has had rave reviews from former colleagues at the club.

Pulisic, who operates in the No.10 role or on the left, made his debut for Dortmund in January 2016 and became the youngest foreign player to score in the Bundesliga.

And in September last year he became the youngest player to score for the US in a World Cup qualifier.

Any move for Pulisic will hinge on Coutinho, for whom Barca will move if Paris Saint-Germain can force through a proposed £220m deal for Neymar.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain claim Klopp is keen on a deal for Barcelona’s 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Rafinha – and had expressed his interest even before the Catalan club stepped up their efforts to land Coutinho.

Liverpool are said to be ready to pay up to £36m for a player who has not enjoyed much first-team action at the Nou Camp.
