Fabregas given his marching orders late on for a second yellow.

“After the [first] red card we lost our composure and we conceded three goals” said Conte.

“A situation like this can happen so we must pay attention to try and think there is the rest of the game to try and do your best.

“Instead, we conceded three goals and in the second half it was very difficult to change the result despite the great desire and commitment of my players which made me very proud.

“Today I saw two faces of my team – one positive in the second half, one negative in the first half.

“Because of the situation you can see in last three official games we finished the game with 10 men against Arsenal and today nine men.

“So also I have to study a new formation with nine or 10 players not 11 because when this happens with this regularity you must be worried.”

For delighted Burnley boss Dyche there were different emotions.

“Overall we deserved it. We were disappointed with the two goals we conceded because we were pleased with the shape before that.

“But it was a big win for us as they are a good side, look at their physicality.

“The sending-off makes a big difference. It is about how you respond to the situation. I thought the ref had a really good game, he handled it well and my staff tell me it was the correct decision.“

The defeat came as Chelsea prepared to fine Diego Costa £300,000 for going AWOL from pre-season training.

The Brazilian-born Spain striker, thought to be still on holiday in South America, failed to return from his summer break two weeks ago after a spat with Conte.

After taking legal advice and speaking with the PFA Chelsea are ready to fine the £150,000-a-week frontman two weeks’ wages.

Conte texted Costa at the end of last season saying the striker was no longer in his plans – and the star is now in a

public stand-off with Chelsea.
