LAGERPOOL Scousers sup cheapest pints in UK

RAISE a glass to Liverpool – the toast of the nation for cost conscious lager lovers. Stoke at £ 3.20 and York £ 3.35. Among the most expensive places are Edinburgh at £4, Brighton and Oxford, £4.25.

But despite prices, Brighton has the highest pub-to-population ratio in the UK, with one bar per every 861 people, a study shows.

Sheffield has the lowest, with just one pub for every 2,793 people. Gareth Brown, marketing manager at Thames cruise liner Bateaux London, which commission­ed the survey, said: “Cities like Brighton, Liverpool, and York are growing into real drinking hot spots for the average beer drinker.

“And each of these cities are now seeing many microbrewe­rieses and craft pubs opening up.

“While London didn’t perrhaps perform as well as we e expected in the data, the city y still boasts the greatest varietyy of pub and entertainm­ent t offerings in the UK.”

The Rake pub in London on Bridge has been selling a pint nt for £13.40.

But operators said aid Cloudwater’s North West Doubleuble IPA was a speciality beer and nd it had to be ordered through a distributo­r, making it more expenpensi­ve. It was pointed out at nine e per cent strength it was “never going to be cheap”.
