Hidden side to undisputed world champion Mayweather feeds homeless

- By Matt Bozeat

FLOYD MAYWEATHER will help feed the homeless with the millions he earned from the richest prizefight in history.

Mayweather picked up £155million from his 10-round win over UFC legend Conor McGregor in Las Vegas last weekend.

That victory means he bows out of boxing with an unblemished 50-0 record.

Beggars

But, for all his talent, Mayweather divided fans with his brash, flashy personality.

However, East End knockout specialist Anthony Yarde has seen another side to ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Yarde, who faces Ryan Ford for the vacant WBO Intercontinental light-heavyweight title at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday, September 16, has spent time with Mayweather i n Vegas. “Floyd i s very kind-hearted,” said Yarde. “He is a very good guy.

“He has had it hard and he doesn’t want other people to have it hard.

“There are lots of beggars around Vegas, lots of homeless people, and Floyd feeds them.

“One day a week, he gets in a van and drives around feeding people.

“He doesn’t put it out there, but that’s what he does.

“He told me he doesn’t want any attention for doing that, he wants attention for boxing.

“When the cameras are on him, he sells himself – that’s all he’s doing.

“Sure, Floyd loves money, but who doesn’t?

“That trip to Vegas was a turning point for me.

“Floyd’s work ethic and mentality were amazing. He would come in the gym looking tired, but, once he put on his gloves, he lit up and would train hard for three hours.

“He was motivated to make money and he made lots of money, but he stayed motivated. He got to the top and he didn’t slip. He stayed there.” Yarde (below) also looks to be heading for the top. He is already ranked No.8 by the WBO after flattening 11 of his 12 opponents and says it’s “possible” he will challenge for a world title by the end of the year But that is only if his mum does not ban him from boxing! “Mum never wanted me to box,” he admitted.

Punches

“She used to say, ‘You’re not going to ruin your face’. She wouldn’t let me box – and she took a bit of persuading “But now I am boxing, I have to work hard on my defence. “I know that if my mum sees me with black eyes, she will tell me I have to stop boxing! “I’m trying to keep mum happy by winning – and not taking any punches.”
