THE AGENTS

-

ROB SEGAL (below) THE window should close before the season starts.

Although, even if it did, deals would still get done right up until the last minute. I preferred it when you could trade all year round, it wasn’t so frenetic, transfers weren’t such knee-jerk reactions.

Dealing with the window as it is brings a mixture of everything: it’s stressful, it’s exhilarating and, ultimately, it’s extremely disappointing.

It’s not how it’s all made out to be. It’s stressful for the players, their families, their children. We’re talking about the time of year when children start school.

What normal family doesn’t know where their children are going to go to school – in England? In Europe? Less than a week before they go back. It’s very, very stressful. CHRIS NATHANIEL IT would be better if the window closed before the first game. A club can be three games into a season and suddenly everything has to change because someone comes in for one of their players. There is an argument to say that there should be no window at all. I can’t think of any other profession which has such a system. Under this system, a club could lose, say, four strikers and are not able to replace them until the winter window. The way it is now, a lot of your planning can go out the window if a club comes in for your players. DAVID GEISS MAYBE we could go back to the way it used to be. You are free to buy anyone until a transfer deadline in March. That seemed to work.
