Runaway bride and ...gloom

Groom’s despair after stag-do hell

- By Patrick Hill

THE groom left stranded at an airport after his fiancee allegedly did a runner with his £11,000 stag-do kitty appeared heartbroken yesterday.

Glum-faced Chris Mahone, 27, was seen returning to the terraced house he shares with Rachel Doran, 29, for the first time since his ordeal.

Wearing blue shorts and a black Man United training top, he nipped inside before leaving again and getting into a pal’s car.

The Sellafield nuclear plant worker is understood to have spent Friday night drowning his sorrows after staying with pals.

A neighbour said: “He’s usually a really happy chirpy lad, but Chris looked like he’d barely slept. He’s going through hell at the minute, he doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going. He’s devastated.

“He still can’t understand why Rachel’s done this to him.”

Chris was left humiliated and shocked on Thursday morning after he and 30 mates arrived at Leeds Bradford Airport for a 6.45am Jet2 flight to Ibiza.

They approached check- in only to find their boarding passes were fake. Rachel had allegedly handed them over after pocketing the £11,000 set aside for the flights and hotel.

It is believed she did so in revenge after wrongly believing Chris had cheated on her.

He and Rachel got together in March 2015. They got engaged just six months later and were preparing to tie the knot in December. They y had been living together in Cleator Moor, Cumbria.

Former waitress Rachel was last night understood to be staying at a caravan park close to nearby Allonby.

Chris’ spirits have been lifted by messages from female admirers since the story broke, including a marriage proposal.

Katie Louise, of Nottingham, wrote on his Facebook profile: “I will marry you lol.”

Aishling Hughes added: “She was punching WELL above her weight anyway! X.”

Chris’ friend Glen Meagan later wrote online: “Tell you what son. There’s birds all over the country wanting you in these comments.”

Eight of Chris’ pals defiantly booked last- minute flights to Magaluf when they realised they were not going to Ibiza. They were apparently enjoying their break last night. Commenting on one g group pp photo,, Lee Joseph Curnow wrote:

“Garnnnn the bois.”
