Feuding family to spend Corrie’s birthday apart
Mum and brothers don’t speak to missing airman’s dad
CORRIE McKeague’s parents have refused to end their bitter feud and mark his first birthday since he vanished together.
The RAF gunner is 24 on Saturday and mum Nicola Urquart, 48, will spend the day with his brothers Makeyan, 26, and Darroch, 22, and her husband David.
Dad Martin, 48, will be supported by wife Trisha, 54, and his parents.
The feud goes on as they also prepare to mark the first anniversary of Corrie’s disappearance a fortnight today. A family member, who stayed anonymous, said: “It should be a happy occasion with Corrie enjoying his 24th. Instead, it’s going to be incredibly sad. But it makes it even worse that his family won’t all be able to come together as one to support each other.”
Nicola, a police liaison officer in Dunfermline, and Martin split 15 years ago.
They fell out when Martin was left out of a press conference after Corrie vanished. He later accused Nicola of hampering the probe by hiring a private detective and creating a false image of Corrie as a “saint”. Martin also contradicted Nicola by claiming Corrie had known girlfriend April Oliver, 21, was pregnant.
The family member added: “Makeyan and Darroch are angry. Rightly or wrongly, they’ve taken their mum’s side and haven’t spoken to Martin for months. It’s sad the way things have gone.
“Corrie’s birthday and the anniversary of him going missing are going to be two of the hardest days imaginable.”
On the anniversary, Nicola will return to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, where Corrie vanished after a night out. His mobile signal was traced to a landfill 13 miles away but a search found nothing.
