TWO babies from a set of triplets have been found dead in their home after a tragic accident.

Police are investigating whether the five-month-old boys died in their sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The children were discovered not breathing after a frantic 999 call – the third triplet, also a boy, survived.

A neighbour said: “It is a terrible tragedy. The young girl was a single parent and had only been in there a short time.

“She often wheeled the triplets around the estate – they were all boys. She doted on them. I saw emergency crews take the bodies out and it was a terrible sight.” Another neighbour, Ann May, 64, said: “I saw the mother and she is absolutely distraught. The fire service were here, but there was no fire. We heard it was carbon monoxide poisoning.

“I saw those poor babies being brought out. It was so shocking. I tried to speak to their mother, but she was too upset. She is only a young girl in her 20s.”

Ambulance crews were called to the rented home, in Bridgend, South Wales, at 10.05am yesterday. The two babies were pronounced dead later at the Princess of Wales Hospital in the town. Officers refused to respond to questions the boys were overcome by carbon monoxide poisoning from a heating system.

South Wales Police said: “The fivemonth-old children were conveyed to hospital, where, tragically they were later pronounced deceased.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths, which are being treated as a tragic accident.”

The family, who had only been there since April, were in the process of being re-housed because the home – one in a block of four – had recently been sold.
