It is very sad. Wherever he is, he is sitting there thinking f*** it, job done’

right out. Me and her like to do the same things, like having a drink. We like having a laugh. I’ve met my match, I’ve met my soulmate. It’s good because the kids love her, the lads love her.”

When it comes to his bubble baths, though, she’s put her foot down. “Debbie used to run me a nice bubble bath. She doesn’t do that any more. She’s like, ‘f*** you, you’re a d***.’”

Will there be wedding bells? “We’ve talked about marriage,” he said. “Who knows? Third time lucky. I never say never.” He said it’s unlikely there will be more kids. “Debbie doesn’t want them. I don’t want any more, got enough”.

Cool

As we move on to music, the swagger returns a little. “I think the music industry is better with me in it. That’s not me being a bighead, it’s just better.” There are few music stars he reckons are as cool as he is – with the striking exception of the late George Michael. The pair formed an unlikely friendship after George once made an unexpected appearance at an Oasis gig.

George, who died on Christmas Day, was so impressed with Liam he chose him to appear in his final piece of work – a documentary titled Freedom, which will air on Channel 4 later this month. Liam said: “I was well pleased. When they asked me I was like, ‘Are you sure you don’t want Noel doing it?’ Because Noel’s into all that yapping, and they said, ‘No, George wants you in it!’ So that was nice. Then he sent me flowers, God bless him.

“George was a big fan of Oasis when we first started. We were playing Bournemouth and he turns up with three Bananarama girls. I was going, ‘I’m sure that’s George Michael down the front.’ Our kid is like, ‘F*** off, carry on singing.’ But I go, ‘There is f****** George Michael pogoing.’

“I met him at the hotel and he was saying how much he loved the band. I met him a couple of other times. After the Olympics I went to his house.

“He always had time for me. It’s very sad. Wherever he is, he is sitting there thinking ‘f*** it, job done’. I’m sure he achieved everything he wanted to and more. He lived his life. That’s what it’s all about, living your life the way you should. The only person you have to answer to is yourself.” On Friday Liam and Debbie flew to Los Angeles where Liam will appear on James Corden’s The Late Late Show. And Liam agrees when I suggest it could be awkward after he previously called James a “knobhead” in a magazine interview. He says: “I did dig him out a bit. I don’t want to do the carpool karaoke. “It’s not me, it’s organised fun. I hope we get pulled over by the police and he gets arrested for singing at the wheel, he goes to prison and I can just get off and go to the pub. “I’m going to tell him I got hacked, say it wasn’t me. Say ‘I think you look f****** great, you’ve lost weight.’” After three bottles of wine and the mention of weight loss, Liam is back on to his beauty secrets, which consist of “never ever washing my skin with soap” and going for daily 6am runs. Hangovers normally mean he ends up “eating like Henry VIII” and he can’t keep exercising because: “Those people constantly keeping fit. They are all moody b*******.” He reckons Noel, 50, works out too much adding: “He looks so miserable like he’s dying for a f****** KFC.”

Realising he has just brought his bro into the conversation, the bravado is lost and Liam says he wants to end their feud.

He insists: “I hope we make up. Not just for Oasis but for brothers. Enough is enough now, I know I wind him up. I have put it out there enough times but I think he doesn’t want to know.

“I reckon we would just have to meet up and hug it out as they say.” Then what has been an eye-opening interview finishes on a Zen-like note, as Liam says: “I am more spiritual.

“Not in a way where I’ve got wind chimes outside my front door and I get up and pray.

“But I feel connected and protected by the universe, for sure. And I don’t why I know that but I feel in tune with it.”
