Bayliss: We love a dust-up

- From Dean Wilson

ENGLAND boss Trevor Bayliss insists his side have got everything they need out of their Ashes warm-ups despite spending their final day in the dirt taking just one wicket.

An attack that included both Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes were flogged around the Riverway Stadium as two Aussie youngsters piled on the runs and grabbed maiden first-class tons.

Jason Sangha is just 18 and became the second youngest behind Sachin Tendulkar to score a first-class hundred against England while 22-year-old Matt Short hit 134 not out in the draw with a Cricket Australia XI.

And with the First Test just days away, England’s bowlers will have to find a way to get more out of flat pitches against the full Aussie XI. “We have got about as much as we possibly could out of our three warm-up games,” said Bayliss. “Today wasn’t the perfect game of cricket for us but it’s time in the dirt.

“We will probably have another one or two of them in the Test matches. It was probably good to experience it, and the heat as well.

“It is not going to be perfect, nothing compares to an Ashes Test especially the first one for an England team away in Brisbane, a place where Australia haven’t lost for nearly 30 years.

“We see that as an opportunity. They haven’t lost there for decades, but that means they are one day closer to doing so.’’
