COPS SLASHED BY WOMAN, 50 2 officers in hospital after attack at house
TWO policemen were slashed as they fought to tackle a knifewoman in the street.
They were called to a house over fears for someone’s safety when they faced the woman, 50, brandishing a blade.
As they tried to disarm her, one officer was stabbed in a leg while another suffered severe injuries to a hand.
They were taken to hospital, where both had surgery on their wounds.
Detectives held the woman on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police said she suffered a non- lifethreatening head injury as she was arrested in the horror at the £400,000 home in Chelmsford, Essex. Witnesses said ten police vehicles arrived there.
An elderly neighbour said: “I’m scared to go out. There were police everywhere, all you could see were blue flashing lights.”
Police were called to the end-of-terrace house, where property regularly sells for more than £500,000, shortly after 11 on Friday night.
Another neighbour said: “The gentleman that lives there was an elderly man and I used to get the bus with him.
“He lived there with a younger woman, in her late 40s, and another younger person. You wonder what’s going on. It is shocking.” The horror took place just yards from the Busy Bees Springfield nursery. After the attack, police threw a cordon round the two- storey home as they combed the area for evidence. Life-saving first aid gear was strewn across the f r ont driveway, where t he t wo officers were initially treated. Forensics officers in white suits collected evidence. Another neighbour said y e s t e r day: “Police came round this morning and told us what happened. It is so shocking. There have been police all over the house all day.”
Essex Police said: “Two officers have received serious injuries following an incident in which they were stabbed in Springfield Road, Chelmsford.
“Officers were called to a property following a report of concern for welfare. They have been approached by a woman with a knife. The woman has stabbed on officer in the leg and a second in the hand.
“During the altercation the suspect has suffered a head injury and been taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge. Her injuries are not life-changing.
“She has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.”
