ARSENAL 1 MAN UTD

- Top Gea

who played a perfect pass into the Ecuadorian’s path inviting a low driven finish that flew through Petr Cech’s legs.

It was just the start Mourinho and his stars wanted and they were 2-0 ahead after 11 minute’s with a classy goal that sent United’s bench and their fans wild with delight.

Again it was kamikaze defending by Arsenal which handed United the initiative.

Shkodran Mustafi dithered in possession outside his box and was caught by Lingard, operating dangerously in a central role behind striker Romelu Lukaku.

Swarmed

The big Belgian immediately involved Anthony Martial who had swarmed into the action as Arsenal tried in vain to shut down United’s pack mentality.

But as soon as Lingard raced onto Martial’s cute flick Arsenal were undone as the England star expertly beat Cech with a shot which clipped off the far post. That signalled a vicious response from Arsenal who replaced Mustafi with Alex Iwobi – and went into attack mode.

If not for De Gea, Wenger’s stars would have been level by half time with saves from Lacazette and his own striker Lukaku standing out before the break.

Arsenal threw themselves a lifeline with a superbly crafted Lacazette goal moments after the re-start.

And although Lingard saw a break-away effort pushed on to the post by Cech, United found themselves under siege.

De Gea showed why he’s the world’s best with a stunning double save to deny Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez before United sealed victory with a rapid break which ended with Lingard tapping in a Pogba pass.

It was Pogba’s last major play as referee Andre Marriner rightly red carded him for an ugly challenge on Hector Bellerin.

United held out. Now bring on the derby.
