MACHETE’ MAN HELD ON RUN
A MURDER suspect wanted over the machete killing of a cagefighter faces extradition to the UK after a year on the run in Poland.
Mateusz Madej, 23, had disappeared after being bailed in September last year over the murder of Sebastian Zuchlinski.
Mr Zuchlinski, 39, was ambushed and hacked to death by four masked men in February 2016. He had been going on a night out in Bolton, Greater Manchester, when the men surrounded his car.
Tomasz Bubrowski, 39, was jailed for life at Bolton Crown Court in March for the killing.
Madej – described as “dangerous” by Greater Manchester Police – fled to Poland after being released on bail.
An appeal on BBC Crimewatch at the time failed to locate him. But he was finally arrested in Krakow on November 14.
Greater Manchester Police said: “We are aware of the arrest of Mateusz Madej in Krakow.
“Madej remains wanted in connection with the murder of Sebastian Zuchlinski and the subject of a European Arrest Warrant.
“We will continue to liaise with the Polish authorities.”
Mr Zuchlinski, a father and grandfather known as Seba, was an amateur cagefighter and boxer, and worked as a delivery driver.
As the attack began he told his girlfriend, who was in the car with lO him, to get out and run. She returned after the men had left to find him dying on the ground.
He had suffered stab wounds to his body, along with deep cuts to his head, shoulder and thigh.
Paramedics fought to save him at the scene after another motorist scared off his attackers.
Originally from Poland, Madej has links to Bolton, Manchester, Milton Keynes and London.
Two other men are still wanted in connection with the murder.
