WALTERS FALL

Galloway Black Cats reprieve CALVERT IN GOOD REWARD

- By by Tom Hopkinson by Neil Moxley

SUNDERLAND boss Chris Coleman has challenged on-loan Everton defender Brendan Galloway to prove his worth.

The England Under-21 international (right) was axed by former manager Simon the Premier League this season. With a glut of forwards available to France coach Didier Deschamps, Giroud cannot take the chance of missing out on potentially his last finals. The striker’s wife Jennifer is also expecting their third child and they are settled in London – so that rules out a switch to Merseyside. A source close to the situation at Arsenal said: “Olivier does not want to disturb and uproot his family. “Ideally, he wants to stay but he needs football – there are options in London for him.” West Ham and Palace are both interested, initially in a loan deal. Both can offer him first-team football with the decision being left to Giroud. Grayson after struggling earlier in the season.

But Coleman is prepared to offer left-back Galloway, 21, a clean slate.

He said: “When I first arrived, I knew he’d had a tough time. But tough time or not, whether he had played well or not, it’s now that matters and we are going to need all of the players. “But people that duck i it or shirk it, I’ll never understand that.” JON WALTERS will be made available for loan by BURNLEY in January.

The Republic of Ireland international has found it hard to force his way into Sean Dyche’s thinking.

And the Clarets chief is willing to listen to any offers for him for the second half of the campaign.

Walters, 34, was signed from Stoke City during the summer but fell down the pecking order following the arrival Chris Woods from Leeds.
