TYCOON IN DIE PACT’

- By Karen Rockett

A BILLIONAIRE and his wife were found hanged side by side above a basement swimming pool at their £40million mansion, police revealed yesterday.

The death of pharmaceutical boss Bobby Sherman, 75, and his wife Honey, in her late 60s, appeared to be a possible suicide pact.

Police said they were treating the deaths as “suspicious” – but there was no sign of forced entry and it is thought no one else is being sought. The couple were philanthropists and mystery surrounded the reasons behind their deaths.

The couple, who have four children, recently put their Toronto mansion up for sale for £4million. Their bodies were found when an estate agent with a key called in.

There were reports Mr Sherman faced a renewed claim for royalties on a business he acquired years ago.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was “saddened by the sudden passing of Barry and Honey Sherman”. He spoke of the “vision and spirit” of the couple, who gave millions to charity.

Mr Sherman was the founder of drug maker Apotex Ince, which employed more than 11,000 worldwide.

Linda Frum, a member of the Canadian Senate, said she was “gutted by the loss” of the couple. Two weeks ago she presented a Senate medal to them and described the pair as among “the kindest and most beloved members of Canada’s Jewish community”.
