SIR Tom Jones’s hip-hop phase is almost over as he gets ready to walk without a cane.

The Welsh singing legend, who has spent three months hobbling around after a hip replacement, expects to walk unaided as early as next week.

The Voice judge Sir Tom, 77, said: “Every day is getting better, I’m walking every day. I started off on crutches, then two canes, then I could walk with one. Next week I’ll hopefully be able to walk without any canes.

“Everything went according to plan. I’ve had it checked and it’s all great.”

Sir Tom, who returns on Saturday in a new series of the ITV’s talent contest, had to postpone a US tour because of his op.

But he has no plans to slow down. He said: “Some people would rather be on a golf EASTENDERS stars gather for scenes which all but confirm the worst for Abi Branning after her Queen Vic roof fall.

Fans were stunned when Abi, played by Lorna Fitzgerald, was left brain dead on Thursday. Abi and sister Lauren fell from the pub roof after talking dad Max out of throwing himself off. Lauren and Abi’s premature baby survived.

In new scenes, one actor clutches a card reading “In memory of Abigail Branning”. Lauren, played by Jacqueline Jossa, 25, is seen using a walking cane, Max (actor Jake Wood, 45) looks bereft and actress Ann Mitchell, 78, arrives in hairnet and warm boots to play gran Cara.

It emerged earlier this year that 21-year-old Lorna and Jacqueline were leaving. Shame it’s such an un-Abi ending. course than on stage. But the best part of my day is when I’m singing.”

He says filming The Voice was something to look forward to during the weeks of physio and it acted as rehab.

Sir Tom reunites with Jennifer Hudson, 36, and Will.i.am, 42. They will be joined by new mentor Olly Murs, 33. The Voice, ITV, Saturday 8pm.
