Barefoot toddler found wandering alone on A43 Trucker rescued freezing little lad carrying shoes
A SHOCKED trucker found a barefoot, freezing little boy wandering alone on a road in the early hours.
Simon Buzdygan-Neal, 35, slammed on the brakes after spotting the terrified toddler walking down a dual carriageway carrying his shoes.
He picked up the crying boy, aged between two and three, at 1am and took him to the warmth of his cab.
Dad-of-one Simon then called the police who took the lad to a police station.
Cops made inquiries and the boy was reunited with his parents at 4.45am.
Sainsbury’s driver Simon was on the A43 at Northampton when he saw the lone figure. He said: “I saw something but didn’t think anything of it.
“It was only when I went to move into the second lane and got closer that I realised what it was. I thought to myself: ‘Oh my God, that’s a child.’
“I put my hazards on and pulled over – I think my lorry frightened him as he started walking towards the island near the slip road.”
“He cried when I picked him up, he was freezing cold, bless him.”
Babbling
The truck driver put him in his cab to warm him up and immediately called the police. He then asked the boy where his parents were but could not understand the boy as he seemed to be babbling in babyish language.
Simon said: “When I told the police they kept asking me to repeat what I was saying because I don’t think they could believe it was a child.”
Simon, of Grantham, Lincs, whose own son was born in September, rescued the boy on Thursday.
His wife Joanne said she was “so proud” of Simon for helping the boy. “We’re a little overwhelmed by all the attention but I’m so glad Simon found him as it could have ended very differently.
“We don’t know any more other than what the police have told us – that the boy is reunited with his family.’’
She added: “They are probably feeling a bit shocked and ashamed by what has happened but if they wanted to meet up we wouldn’t rule it out.”
