Delight for Dua as she chases 5 pop gongs
POP sensation Dua Lipa is up for a fantastic FIVE gongs at the Brit Awards.
The singer was thrilled yesterday after nominations for best female artist, best single – for New Rules – breakthrough act, best album and best video.
Dua, 22, told the Sunday People: “I feel like this year has been so special for so many British artists leaving their mark on the world and I can’t believe I’ve been nominated for one, let alone f i ve Brit Awards.
“This is so surreal and exciting, and I’m so thankful for the recognition.”
And the stunned star later tweeted: “Wow... my head hurts.”
An industry source said Dua’s performance was amazing – as she even bagged more nominations than Ed Sheeran, 26.
The source added: “It is pretty impressive, she is doing incredibly well. Who knew she was so popular?”
Meanwhile, there was good news and bad news for the Gallagher brothers. Liam, 45, is up for Male Solo Artist but Noel, 50, misses out. It is 23 years since they won their first Brit award together, as breakthrough act, in the early days of Oasis. One Direction stars Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson also failed to get a nod – while their ex-bandmates Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles are up for a gong. They will be going up against each other in the Video Of The Year. Liam, 24 – who has a baby with pop partner Cheryl Tweedy, 34 – is also up for best single with Strip That Down. He said: “It’s fantastic. I didn’t expect any of this.” Dua’s rivals for best female are Jessie Ware, Kate Tempest, Laura Marling and Paloma Faith. Liam Gallagher i s up against Ed Sheeran, Loyle Carner, Rag ’n’ Bone Man and Stormzy. Best Group contenders are Gorillaz, London Grammar, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice and The XX. Dua competes against Dave, J Hus, Loyle Carner and Sampha in the breakthrough category.
