Man arrested after travel agent’s throat cut

- By

A TRAVEL agent’s throat has been slit by a knifeman in a busy high street.

The woman, named as Cassie Hayes, 28, was killed in a branch of TUI as hundreds of shoppers were passing by.

The heavily bandaged victim was taken to hospital but died soon afterwards. A man, 30, detained at the scene in Southport, Merseyside, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Last night Cassie’s heartbroken partner Leah Mcdonald said on social media: “My absolute world i love you so so much have done since we first met i promise i will look after our girl the best i can.” Delivery driver Rich Lawson, 27, said: “I saw them bring a girl out on a stretcher and put her in an ambulance.

“She was covered up but I could see blood on her face. There was a lot of blood and she looked like she was unconscious. I overheard a lady wearing a TUI uniform on the phone. She was shaking and said her throat was slit.

“When I went back to my van and drove past the police riot van was up against the door. It looked like they were bringing a man out.”

A TUI spokesman said: “We regret to confirm a female member of staff has been involved in an incident. We’re doing everything possible to assist police with their investigation and support our staff and customers at this difficult time.” It is unknown if anyone else was in the shop yesterday when the attacker entered at 1.25pm.

Early reports indicated it was a hostage situation and big crowds gathered around a police cordon. A police spokesman said: “A 30-yearold man from the Southport area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in custody. It is believed that the incident was domestic related.”
