£2k compo for ban on assistance dogs in pub

- By Mydrim Jones by Jane Cohen and Geraldine McKelvie

A CAR created out of snow in a street looked so realistic, passing police slapped a parking ticket on it.

Artist Simon Laprise, 33, spent four hours making the DeLorean DMC-12 in Montreal, Canada.

As a finishing touch, he found a windscreen wiper to poke out by the car’s front “windscreen”.

Police driving by in the early hours saw the joke and put a ticket under the wiper, reading: “You made our night!! Hahahahaha.” The car was later flattened by snow clearers. A DISABLED woman has spoken about her bitter fight for compo from a pub that banned her dog.

Burnadette Clutton, 55, and pal Edward Williams, 41, were each awarded £ 1,000 from the boozer which said their assistance dogs could not sit with them in its carvery.

As well as damages awarded under equality laws, a county court ruled the pub must pay £ 900 legal costs to the pair, who represented themselves.

Burnadette said: “It was scary, we didn’t know what we were doing. But no one would take our case on. It’s been really hard doing this in a small village. I’ve been called disgusting and money grabbing. People have abused me in the supermarket.”

Burnadette, who has mobility and spinal problems, and Edward, who has breathing difficulties, made a stand after her local, The Village Inn in Llanfairfechan, Conwy, barred labradors Maisie and Ebony in April.

Burnadette said: “We need the dogs, they don’t bother anyone. We felt humiliated. Why should we be singled out for being disabled?

“We were told we couldn’t bring our dogs into the carvery area, where our table was. We didn’t feel welcome after that, and left hungry.”

Lawyers for the pub said staff had to maintain food hygiene standards and said the dogs posed an “unacceptable” risk. After the Caernarfon County Court ruling, Burnadette said: “We were happy we won. It was never about money.”

Pub regulars raised £600 towards the costs but it is being given to local schools.
