SUICIDE bombers driving an ambulance packed with explosives killed 95 people and wounded 158 in the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday.

The massive blast went off at a checkpoint close to several foreign embassies and the city’s police headquarters at 12.15pm local time.

Witnesses said the area was crowded with people.

Dozens of bodies were strewn across the ground and plumes of smoke could be seen from around the city.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. It killed 22 people at a luxury hotel a week ago.

Officials expect the death toll to rise. PLANS for thousands of new homes to tackle the crisis of homelessness have been announced by Labour.

Rough sleeping has more than doubled since 2010 and is up 73 per cent in the last three years alone, say Government figures released this week. The number of children in temporary accommodation has risen 70 per cent to over 120,000.

Labour is announcing it will make 8,000 affordable homes available for people with a history of sleeping on the streets – double the number previously promised.

Under the proposal, an incoming Labour government would strike a deal with housing associations to make the homes available immedi- Theresa May promised a country that works for everyone.

Nothing exposes how meaningless that is than the thousands of people who will sleep rough tonight.

Under Conservatives it’s getting worse – a terrible reminder of the consequences of their government.

The crisis is not inevitable, it’s the ately as they fall vacant. In this way, the homes for rough sleepers will become available much more quickly than if they were built from scratch.

Shadow Secretary of State for Housing John Healey said: “The rising number of people sleeping rough shames us all.”

The new policy is part of Labour’s plan to end rough sleeping within their first term in office.
