HOL OF A CHEEK Greek Basil Fawlty’ sacked after calling Brits cockroaches’
A RUDE hotel boss who branded British tourists “cockroaches” has been fired.
Yannis Agapakis, dubbed the “Greek Basil Fawlty”, flew into a rage after holidaymakers left scathing reviews on the TripAdvisor website.
Hitting back at one Brit who complained about insects, he posted: “There are no cockroaches here except the two-legged variety.”
In scenes straight out of classic TV series Fawlty Towers, he told one family who complained about late-night noise to “find another hotel” and labelled another guest who asked for her room to be cleaned “loud and obnoxious”.When one fed up guest had a problem with the food, Mr Agapakis replied that his review was “complete fabrication”, adding: “The word c**p, which you tend to use a lot, sums up what you have written. Verbal diarrhoea!!! Regards.”
One dad, 37, who paid £3,800 for a package deal at the “family friendly” hotel said he raised issues over the behaviour of staff with Mr Agapakis. “When we got a one-to -one with him in his office I thought Basil Fawlty was standing in front of me. He told us our c omplaint was rubbish. He was ranting about other guests, just like Basil.”
The hotel complex, which includes five outdoor swimming pools and a water park, has a rating of four out of five on Trip Advisor.
Last night Thomas Cook said Mr Agapakis had left the four-star Caretta Beach Holiday Village in Zante where he was general manager. A spokesman said: “We put customers at the heart of everything we do and we expect our partner hotels and staff to do the same.” The owner of the complex, Nikos Milonas, wrote telling guests the hotel was under new management, adding: “We will try to be better.”
Mr Agapakis was not available for comment.
