Hope from a brave MP on day of tears

-

I CAN’T believe it’s a year since the Westminster terror attack.

I covered the horrific events that day and can recall the shock and fear and disgust as clearly as if it was yesterday.

The first anniversary will have brought back dreadful memories for the bereaved, the wounded, their loved ones and everyone caught up in that day of carnage too.

The 12 months of tears they’ve shed probably feel like a lifetime’s.

And their continuing nightmare must have made it incredibly hard to see images replayed on TV.

But I really hope they watched MP Tobias Ellwood speaking on BBC Breakfast on Thursday.

The defence minister and former army officer had tried in vain to save PC Keith Palmer after he was stabbed by evil Khalid Masood.

His memories are still raw and he wept as he recalled returning home afterwards to find his young son sitting on the stairs.

Mr Elwood said: “He was in tears and he was on his own.

“I sat next to him and he just asked why.

“All I could offer was that there are some bad people in the world but there are a lot more good people.

“And it’s the good people that win.”

From a day of tears and terrible memories, it’s a message we can all cling on to.
