THE SUSPECTS: Where are they now?

-

Luke Knight, 41 KNIGHT is the only Stephen Lawrence suspect still at large and lives just a few miles from where the stabbing happened. In 2009 he broke his silence to protest: “I’ve had 15 years of this – how do you think I’m coping? I can’t even get a job.” But the Sunday People can reveal Knight, who has two children by an estranged partner, is now a roofer by trade. He is said to have suffered health problems. Neil Acourt, 42 SMUG Neil Acourt was jailed for six years in 2017 for conspiracy to supply drugs after masterminding a £4million cannabis plot. Last week he was ordered to repay £6,000 or face more time behind bars.

In 2001 Acourt was convicted of having an offensive weapon and in 2012 he and Norris got 18 months for a racist attack on an off-duty black detective. Acourt’s long-term partner is thought to be standing by him. David Norris, 41 NORRIS is the son of former notorious gangster Clifford Norris and grew up in relative luxury in Chislehurst.

Before Stephen’s killing he was charged with attempted murder but was cleared by a jury. He later served several jail terms, one for shouting “n **** r” at an off-duty cop. He is now in high-security HMP Garth, Lancs, and has received more than £220,000 in legal aid while repeatedly challenging his conviction. Gary Dobson, 42 DOBSON was in jail for drug offences when he was finally found guilty of Stephen’s murder in 2012. He had been arrested three times, faced a trial, a private prosecution and attended the inquest and an inquiry. A change in the double jeopardy law meant dadof-two Dobson was re-tried after advances in technology found particles of Stephen’s blood on his jacket. He is serving 14 years in Gartree jail, Leics. Jamie Acourt, 41 THE brother of Neil, he is suspected of drug smuggling and is said to be hiding out on the Costa del Sol. Despite being wanted in the UK he was spotted in London’s Mayfair two years ago. His long-term girlfriend runs a clothes shop in Eltham, favoured by stars of TV’s TOWIE. Acourt has one conviction since Stephen’s killing – for stealing empty soda siphons from a depot in 1999.
