WHY I LOVE THREE AMIGOS PICTURE

- By Steve Bates

OF ALL the happy snaps of Manchester City’s Premier League title-winning celebrations, there is one that Kyle Walker will always cherish.

It features City’s three amigos – Walker, John Stones and Raheem Sterling (above) – sitting on the Etihad pitch with the Premier League title.

And it’s memorable for more than just the obvious.

For Walker, Stones and Sterling all arrived at City amid varying degrees of acrimony with their old clubs – Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool.

It also captures a bond the three friends will share throughout their lifetime when playing careers are over and seasons like the last one are just a distant memory.

Walker said: “We’re all close at City, especially the English lads. We sit together and we all have each other’s back through good and bad times, so that was a photo just to say, ‘We’ve done it as friends’.

“At the start of the season, John and I were saying in the first week of training, ‘Imagine driving down the Princess Parkway into training actually being Premier League champions’.

Glint

“And we did it, which was fantastic, and the style in which we did it was great and we showed that you can play football and win the Premier League.”

The combined £150million fees for the three pals added an extra glint of satisfaction to the picture too. Walker said: “As players, you don’t put a price tag on your head and say, ‘I’m worth that much’. It was completely out of my hands.

“For me, there was a little bit of proving people wrong because we all can see the transfer market did go a little bit crazy in the end.

“But it was just about proving to myself and the manager, who had invested all that money in me – and to my family – that I can go out and play for Manchester City and achieve what they wanted to achieve.”
